What Is a Trinocular Microscope?
A trinocular microscope has two eyepieces for normal viewing plus a third optical port for a camera.
What matters most
This is useful when you want comfortable binocular or stereo viewing while also capturing images. In professional repair, the SM-4TZ family uses a dedicated photo port; in biology, microscopes such as the T490 and Swift SW380T use the third port for documentation.
What the third port actually does
The third tube accepts a camera through the correct adapter. Some heads send light to the camera and eyepieces simultaneously; others use a selector that diverts part or all of the light. “Trinocular” therefore does not automatically mean every view is live at once.
Adapter and sensor matching
C-mount cameras commonly require a relay adapter matched to the microscope and camera sensor. The wrong reduction factor can create a cropped view, dark edges or a camera image that does not match the eyepieces. Check the head thread, adapter format and sensor size before purchasing components separately.
USB or HDMI camera?
USB is convenient for computer capture, measurement and storage. HDMI is convenient for direct monitor viewing and may reduce software dependence. Professional documentation workflows may use both. Read the microscope camera connection guide before assembling a system.
